Look of the Day: Purple & Black

Here's a conversation that kind of went something like this between me and my guy:

Him: So you've been doing a lot of really subtle, neutral looks for a while now.....(trails off)
Me: Yeah, I have.
Him: (beat) Yeah.
Me: ............
Him: You should do what you normally do and do a dramatic eye.
Me: Has it been that long!?? (laughing) I've been doing neutral eye treatments b/c I never do them and I felt out of practice and then I guess I just got used to doing them. What are you saying? No more neutral and back to the norm?
Him: YES!!!
Me: Ok, Ok! Haha, I'll change it up, love.

Man, I didn't even realize the rut I had gotten myself into! My love and passion with makeup is all about color and drama and fun eye treatments. It's what I'm known for, what I love to do and what I PREFER to do. Doing the subtle and neutral thing has been fun but I have to admit, it can get kind of boring for me and I got too comfortable. I became complacent in my craft. Bad on me! I can understand why he's been itching to see the boldness back on my face! LOL!

Now, this isn't to say that a subtle eye is bad or anything negative, however for someone like me who is more prone to doing the big and dramatic and glittery makeup -- subtlety is not something I usually do. With the job that I have, I can wear whatever makeup I want to and not have to worry about "Can I wear this?" or "I can't wear that b/c I have a meeting." or something to that point. That's why I don't have the "take this look from day to night" thing. I do it for my clients, but not for myself; I just wear whatever I want and don't really care!

Anyway, I got up this morning, made some coffee and took my guy into the makeup studio with me and I pulled out the color palettes and said, "Pick out what you want." Hahaha! I knew he'd pick a purple because it's his favorite color and he paired it with a sparkly black and some yellow which I used for a bold pop of color. This is a very fun look that definitely has some drama. He was happy, I was happy, all is well again. Ha! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

The rhinestones were clear and purple but in this picture it looks like there are all different kinds of colors b/c of the flash!

  1. I love your look here =) It's really playful and colourful. And it's interesting how the rhinestones turned out like rainbow colours from the camera flash!
You're lucky you can wear bold makeup in the daytime as well for your job!
I wish my boyfriend was more into my makeup like yours is ;) my bf notices nothing about my makeup and always says he prefers me without which is nice, but can be a bit boring when I want an opinion! Plus, my close girlfriend doesn't really wear makeup either so I'm sort of alone with it all!
